Establishment
Thanulux Co., Ltd. was established on the 23rd of June 1975 by a group of Thai promoters and shareholders with a registered capital of 3 Million Baht. The company, initially located at 1066 Sathupradit Road, Bangpongpang, Yannawa, Bangkok, employed only 75 staffs transferred from Thai Wacoal Public Company Limited. Thanulux was licensed by Cluett Peabody & Co., Inc., United States of America, as the sole manufacturer and distributor of Arrow shirts in Thailand.
Business development
Men's apparel product range expansion
The company spent its first decade (1975-1984) expanding men's apparel product range from shirts to slacks, knitted, nightwear and leather goods (e.g. wallets and belts) under "Arrow" and "Guy Laroche" labels.
1977 First exports to European and Asian countries.
Production of Arrow slacks, knitted and nightwear.
1980 Slack and knit departments were separated from the company and established as People's Garment Co., Ltd.
1983 Production of Arrow leather goods (e.g. wallets and belts).
1984 Granted license to manufacture and sell "Guy Laroche" high-end men's products from Paris.
1985 Granted license to manufacture and sell "Absorba" children's products from France.
Expansion of product lines
Following the success achieved in the first decade of operation, Thanulux continued to add variety to the product lines marketed under international brands and original design brands in order to remain competitive and to maintain the status of the leader in international fashion industry.
1986 Introduction of La Femme maternity products.
1987 Introduction of Mix Self ladies' products.
1988 Production of Guy Laroche swimwear, men's underwear and slacks.
1990 Granted license to manufacture and sell "Zazch", Nature and Adventure men's apparels.
1995 Granted licenses to manufacture and sell "Scherrer" and City high-end ladies' products, and, Jean Louis Scherrer leather goods from Paris.
1987 Granted licenses to manufacture and sell "Daks" high-end men's and ladies' products from England, and, St. Andrews men's products.
1999 Granted licenses to manufacture and sell "BSC" high-end men's products, a total coordinated brand, and, "Elle Homme" men's underwear from France.
Joint ventures
Thanulux's successful expansion of Arrow and Guy Laroche product lines encouraged several international companies to partake in joint ventures with the company. Consequently, a number of joint ventures were formed with foreign companies since 1987. Upstream business joint ventures include Thai Shikibo Co., Ltd., Thai Staflex Co., Ltd., Thai Gunse Co., Ltd., SSDC (Tigertex) Co., Ltd. and Thai Nakamura Label Co., Ltd., among others. Outsource supply joint ventures include S. Apparel Co., Ltd., Thai Monster Co., Ltd., Thai Takaya Co., Ltd., Total Way Image Co., Ltd., among others. There are a number of downstream joint ventures as well to achieve the status of an integrated industry.
Expansion of production base
Thanulux has established factories in different regions in order to cope with the fast-growing demand. This was realized to comply with the government's decentralization policy and to help preserve the environment of Bangkok communities as well.
1989 Establishment of a leather goods factory in Saha Group Industrial Park, Sriracha, Chonburi. The site also serves as offices for Thanulux joint ventures.
1993 Establishment of a leather goods factory and a garment factory in Saha Group Industrial Park, Lamphun and Prachinburi. Investment promotion was awarded by the Board of Investment.
Change of status
On the 21st of July 1987, the company was approved by the Ministry of Finance as a listed company on the Stock Exchange of Thailand. That move has allowed the company to raise capital from the general public and disclose information to investors and the general public as specified by the Stock Exchange of Thailand.
On the 9th of May 1994, the company became a public limited company. An independent committee was appointed to audit the performance of the management in order to ensure good corporate governance and fair treatment of all shareholders.
Move to the global stage
Thanulux was certified ISO 9001:1994 by BVQI in 1999. This certification was extended to cover branches and affiliates in 2000. On the 15th of July 2002, the company was certified ISO 9001:2000 by BVQI. Constant quality system compliance monitoring is carried out by internal monitoring committee and a third party consultant.
The shirt production department and relevant units of the company were SA 8000 certified by SGS (Thailand) Co., Ltd. on the 21st of January 2002.
